A devastating stampede occurred during a Hindu religious gathering in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district, resulting in the tragic loss of 27 lives. The incident took place at a ‘Satsang’ event in Pulrai village near Mandi of Sikandrarau, where a large crowd had gathered for the overnight religious congregation.
According to reports, 23 women, three children, and one man perished in the stampede. The overcrowding at the event is believed to be the primary cause of the tragedy.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Etah, Rajesh Kumar Singh, confirmed the incident and stated that the bodies of the deceased had been brought to the Etah hospital. The police are currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the stampede.
Following the news of the tragedy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and directed officials to reach the accident site and provide immediate relief measures. He also instructed the district administration to transport the injured to the hospital for proper treatment and to expedite the relief work at the scene. Additionally, he ordered an investigation into the causes of the incident under the leadership of ADG Agra and Commissioner Aligarh.
The CMO Etah, Umesh Kumar Tripathi, stated that 27 bodies, including 25 women and 2 men, had been brought to the post-mortem house. Several injured individuals were also admitted to the hospital. Further details regarding the incident will be revealed after the investigation is completed.
