Edmonton police have confirmed that charges are pending in connection with a tragic collision that claimed the life of a three-year-old boy. The incident occurred on June 27th in the south-end community of Allard, near the intersection of Allard Road Southwest and Allard Boulevard Southwest.
According to police, a pickup truck traveling northbound on Allard Road came to a quick stop at the three-way stop at Allard Boulevard. Simultaneously, a woman and her two young children were crossing eastbound across Allard Road in a marked crosswalk on the south side of the intersection.
Police reports indicate that after briefly stopping, the truck turned left onto Allard Boulevard, heading west. In doing so, the vehicle struck the young boy and his mother. The boy, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Paramedics promptly attended to the 39-year-old mother and her seven-year-old daughter, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
The 30-year-old driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and did not report any injuries. While police initially ruled out speed and alcohol as contributing factors, charges are now expected in relation to the collision. Further updates regarding the charges are currently unavailable.
