The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for allegedly encouraging fellow MPs to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the lower House. BJP leaders drew a parallel to Sonia Gandhi’s behavior towards former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, suggesting that Rahul Gandhi was following in his mother’s footsteps.
Amit Malviya, the head of BJP’s IT cell, stated in a post on X, “What Balak Buddhi Rahul Gandhi did yesterday is neither surprising nor new. His mother Sonia Gandhi would do the same. to heckle Prime Minister Vajpayee… But Mr Modi is no Vajpayee and Rahul isn’t Sonia either. Third Time Fail Rahul Gandhi has reduced himself to a caricature.” Malviya shared a video of Rahul Gandhi urging opposition MPs to disrupt the prime minister’s speech with slogans demanding a government statement on the violence in Manipur, accusing the ruling party and PM Modi of “lying”.
Shehzad Poonawalla, a BJP spokesperson, echoed these sentiments, questioning Rahul Gandhi’s suitability as the Leader of the Opposition. Poonawalla shared a video showing Rahul Gandhi allegedly urging other MPs to storm the well of the House in protest and asked, “Does Rahul even deserve to be LoP?”
In response to the continuous sloganeering by opposition members over the Manipur situation, PM Modi dedicated a significant portion of his speech to criticizing the Congress and Rahul Gandhi. During his over two-hour reply to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi used the phrases “baalak buddhi” and “tumse na ho payega” to take a jibe at Rahul Gandhi.
Taking a veiled swipe at Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and the Congress’s performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi remarked, “This is the first time in Congress’s history that they have not crossed the 100-seat mark three times in a row. This is the third biggest defeat in the history of Congress. It would have been better if Congress had accepted its defeat and respected the mandate of the people but they are busy doing some ‘Sirsasana’ and Congress and its ecosystem are trying to establish in the minds of the citizens of India that they have defeated us.”
This heated exchange between the BJP and Congress reflects the ongoing political tensions surrounding the Manipur situation and the upcoming general elections.
