UPSC CSE Mains 2024: Application Process Begins, Important Dates & Exam Details

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially opened the application process for the Detailed Application Form 1 (DAF-1) for the Civil Services (Mains) Examination 2024. Candidates who have successfully qualified in the preliminary exam are now eligible to apply for the mains examination. The application process is underway, and candidates can access and fill out the application form through the official UPSC website, upsconline.nic.in.

The UPSC has emphasized the importance of timely submission of the DAF-I and supporting documents. Any delay beyond the stipulated deadline of July 12th, 6 PM will result in the cancellation of candidature for the CSE-2024. Therefore, candidates are advised to complete the application process within the given timeframe.

Applying for the UPSC CSE Mains 2024:

To apply for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2024, candidates must first register themselves on the official UPSC website. Once registered, they can proceed to fill out the DAF-I. The application fee for the UPSC CSE Main Examination is ₹ 200. Notably, the commission has waived the application fee for female candidates and those belonging to SC, ST, and PwBD categories.

Exam Pattern:

As per the UPSC notification, the written test for the CSE mains will consist of nine papers. These papers will feature standard essay-style questions based on the topics outlined in the exam announcement. Two of these papers will be qualifying in nature. The total weightage for the CSE mains written exam is 1750 marks. Candidates who achieve the required minimum score in the written exam will be eligible to appear for the interview or personality test, which carries a weighted score of 275. For final ranking, the scores obtained in the written exam papers (papers I through VII) and the interview will be considered.

Exam Schedule:

According to the UPSC calendar, the Civil Services (Mains) Exam 2024 is scheduled to be conducted in September 2024. It is important to note that the UPSC will not release the cutoff and answer key along with the result. These will be made available after the final result declaration. This recruitment drive aims to fill 1,056 vacancies across various central government services and departments, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). The recruitment drive also includes 40 reserved seats for candidates belonging to the Persons with Benchmark Disability Category.
