The Mumbai Police investigation into the BMW hit-and-run case has revealed a disturbing pattern of alleged cover-up and escape attempts orchestrated by the accused’s father. Mihir Shah, the accused driver, is alleged to have dragged the victim, Kaveri Nakva, for 1.5 km after hitting her scooter. CCTV footage showed Mihir Shah and the other occupant, Rajrishi Bidawat, pulling the woman off the bonnet, placing her on the road, and then running her over while reversing the vehicle. After the accident, Mihir Shah called his father, Rajesh Shah, a senior leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and informed him about the incident. Rajesh Shah arrived at the scene in a Mercedes, spoke to Mihir, and instructed him to escape. He then allegedly planned to tow the BMW away. This revelation has added a layer of complexity to the case and raised questions about the potential influence of a politically connected individual. The Mumbai Police have formed 11 teams and enlisted the Crime Branch to apprehend Mihir Shah, who is currently absconding. A Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against him. This incident comes just two months after a similar incident in Pune, where a 17-year-old boy rammed his Porsche into a motorbike, killing two software engineers. A recent hit-and-run incident in Pune claimed the life of a 43-year-old policeman. The increasing number of hit-and-run cases in Maharashtra has sparked public concern and led to calls for stricter measures to prevent such incidents. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde acknowledged the issue and assured the public that no one involved in such crimes would be spared.
