A wave of wanderlust has swept across the UK, with a record number of Britons eager to escape the dreary weather and head abroad for their summer holidays. According to new research from AllClear Travel Insurance, an impressive 83% of Brits are planning overseas trips this summer, a significant increase from 78% last June and 64% the year before.
AllClear’s annual tracking study, which surveyed a representative sample of 2,106 adults, reveals that beach holidays (45%) and relaxing stays by the hotel pool (30%) continue to be the most popular choices for summer 2024. For those over 55, cruise holidays remain a firm favorite (11%).
The data also reveals a notable trend: a significant rise in the percentage of individuals with medical conditions seeking a holiday abroad this summer. This year, 73% of those with pre-existing medical conditions are planning to travel internationally, up from 61% in June 2023 and 58% in summer 2022.
Garry Nelson, Head of Corporate Affairs at AllClear Travel Insurance, comments on these findings: “After such a challenging time for the travel industry – enduring a global pandemic followed by a cost-of-living crisis – it is encouraging to see such a strong rebound. This highlights the crucial need for holidaymakers to secure the best possible travel insurance.” Nelson adds, “In recent years, we’ve observed a growing trend among older travelers and those with medical conditions to economize on their travel insurance to obtain a cheaper policy. We strongly encourage everyone to prioritize comprehensive coverage, ensuring they are adequately protected and don’t inadvertently put themselves at risk while abroad this summer.”
