Manchester United have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. The 23-year-old has penned a five-year contract with the Premier League giants, joining for a fee believed to be around 42.5 million euros ($46.35 million). Zirkzee enjoyed a standout season with Bologna in Serie A, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 11 goals and five assists. His impressive performances played a key role in Bologna’s successful campaign, which culminated in securing a place in the Champions League group stage.
United will spread the transfer fee over three years. The Dutch striker expressed his excitement about joining the iconic club, stating, “It is a privilege to join such an iconic club. I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I’ll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away.”
Zirkzee’s arrival comes at a crucial time for United, who finished a disappointing eighth in the Premier League last season, their worst ever performance in the top flight. However, they salvaged their campaign with a victory in the FA Cup. Zirkzee made his senior international debut for the Netherlands in the quarter-final victory against Turkey at the European Championship. He was also part of the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024, where the Oranje reached the semi-finals before falling to England.
The addition of Zirkzee adds depth and firepower to United’s forward line, as they look to challenge for silverware in the upcoming season.
