The Jammu and Kashmir administration has taken comprehensive security precautions for the upcoming Muharram procession in Srinagar. To ensure a smooth and safe event, a specific route has been designated for the procession. In addition, a traffic advisory has been issued to inform commuters about potential road closures and diversions.
Kashmir Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) VK Birdi confirmed these measures on Monday, July 15th, stating, “Extensive security arrangements have been made, a specific route has been given for the procession.” He emphasized the importance of minimizing disruption to the daily lives of city residents, adding, “We have also issued a traffic advisory so that the rest of the people in the city do not face any problem in carrying out their daily chores.”
The organizers of the procession have also taken proactive steps by deploying volunteers to assist with crowd management and ensure the safety of participants.
On Monday, the Muharram procession commenced from its traditional starting point in Guru Bazar and will traverse its customary route through the city, culminating in Dalgate. The procession, a significant religious observance for the Shia Muslim community, is expected to draw a large number of participants.
