Top Seeds Ready for Maharashtra Open Squash Tournament, Hockey India’s Sub Junior South Zone Championship Kicks Off

The Bombay Gymkhana 47th Maharashtra State Open Squash Tournament is set to begin on July 20th, with Veer Chotrani and Anjali Semwal holding the top seeds in the men’s and women’s draws respectively. Rahul Baitha is seeded second in the men’s competition, while Mahesh Mangaonkar and Om Semwal share the third and fourth seeds. In the women’s draw, Sunita Patel is seeded second, followed by Aradhya Porwal and Rani Gupta as joint third and fourth seeds. In the junior category, Siddhant Rewari and Reiva Nimbalkar are the top seeds in the boys’ and girls’ under-19 divisions respectively.

Meanwhile, the second edition of Hockey India’s sub junior men’s and women’s South Zone championship is set to take place in Kollam, Kerala, starting on Friday. Six teams, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry, and Kerala, will be competing in both the men’s and women’s categories. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with each team playing against all others once. The top two teams from each category will advance to the final, while the third and fourth-placed teams will compete for the third-place finish.

“This championship is not only about winning but also about learning and growing as players. It provides a crucial platform for young players to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience,” HI president Dilip Tirkey stated.

The first day of the tournament will see Andhra Pradesh facing off against Puducherry, Karnataka taking on Telangana, and Tamil Nadu locking horns with Kerala in the men’s category. In the women’s division, Telangana will compete with Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu will face Puducherry, and Kerala will take on Karnataka.
