Denmark’s Hjulmand Steps Down After Euro 2024 Exit

Kasper Hjulmand has announced his departure as Denmark’s national team manager, stepping down following a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign. The decision comes after a winless streak for the Danish side, extending across seven matches at both the 2022 World Cup and the recent European Championship.

Denmark’s struggles were evident in their lack of attacking prowess, scoring just three goals in those seven matches. Their Euro 2024 journey ended in the last 16 with a 2-0 defeat to hosts Germany, highlighting the team’s inability to convert chances into goals.

Hjulmand acknowledged the need for a change and expressed his belief that the team requires new energy. He requested the cancellation of his contract, which was set to run for another year.

The Danish Football Association (DBU) has appointed Morten Wieghorst as the interim national coach until 2025, tasked with leading the team through this transition period.
