Air India has taken swift action to bring back passengers stranded in Russia after their Delhi-San Francisco flight made an emergency landing. A special flight departed from Mumbai on Friday to Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) to transport the passengers on their onward journey to San Francisco. The airline’s initial flight, AI183, operating from Delhi to San Francisco on July 18, 2024, had to make a precautionary landing at KJA after the cockpit crew detected a potential issue in the Boeing 777 aircraft’s cargo hold area.
Air India, via their official X account, announced that their ferry flight, AI1179, had taken off from Mumbai (BOM) and was expected to arrive in Krasnoyarsk at 8:00 PM (local time) on July 19, 2024. The ferry flight, carrying a team including crew and security personnel, is equipped with essentials and a sufficient amount of food for all passengers. The airline has also established a dedicated hotline for family, relatives, and friends of AI183 guests seeking information: +91-11-69329301 (India) and +1-317-739-0126 (USA).
Following the precautionary landing at KJA, Air India activated local support to assist passengers, who were required by authorities to remain in the terminal building due to the lack of Russian visas. To ensure the comfort of the passengers, food and beverage amenities at the terminal, previously closed for the evening, have now been reopened. Meals are being provided to all passengers.
Representatives from the Indian consulate in Moscow have travelled overnight and are collaborating with the Russian authorities to facilitate the passengers’ movement to hotels, which have been on standby throughout the night. Air India is committed to providing continued updates as they become available.
