Indian motorsport driver Kush Maini made history on Saturday, securing his maiden Formula 2 victory during the Sprint Race of the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. The triumph came after a controversial disqualification of Trident’s Richard Verschoor.
Verschoor’s car was found to be in violation of the technical regulations due to a rear plank that was below the minimum thickness requirement. The FIA’s decision document explained that the plank’s thickness was less than the required 3.7mm, a breach of Article 3.4.3 of the Technical Regulations.
The disqualification dramatically shifted the race results, propelling Maini to the top of the leaderboard. He inherited the Sprint victory, a momentous achievement in his Formula 2 career. The win was made even sweeter by the fact that Maini’s teammate, Victor Martins, also secured a podium finish, giving Invicta Virtuosi Racing a dominant 1-2 finish at the Hungaroring.
Campos Racing’s Isack Hadjar benefitted from the disqualification as well, moving up to third place on the podium. Maini’s victory marks a significant milestone for Indian motorsport, showcasing his talent and potential on the global stage.
