A 27-year-old woman in Pune was the victim of a violent road rage attack, according to police reports on Saturday. The woman, who was riding a two-wheeler with her two children, was allegedly pursued for two kilometers by a car driver before he assaulted her. The driver, along with a woman accompanying him, has been arrested.
The victim detailed the incident in a video posted on Instagram, describing the driver’s aggressive behavior and the assault, which resulted in severe injuries and nosebleeds. The video, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked widespread outrage and highlighted concerns about women’s safety in the city.
In the video, the woman stated, “A man was speeding past us for two kilometers, and I tried to steer my vehicle to the left to avoid him. Despite his reckless driving, he made a left turn, got out of his car in a rage, and attacked me, punching me twice and pulling my hair. This is what happened. I have two kids. Kuch bhi ho sakta tha (anything could have happened).”
The accused driver faces charges under sections 118(1), 74, 115(2), 352, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act. The case has been filed at the Chaturshrangi Police Station.
This incident comes on the heels of two other recent incidents involving reckless driving and violence in Pune. In one incident, a 17-year-old, reportedly intoxicated, crashed his Porsche into two 24-year-old techies, resulting in their deaths. He was subsequently released on bail after submitting a 300-word handwritten essay as a condition of his release.
In another incident, the 25-year-old son of a politician crashed his SUV into a poultry truck while speeding through the city. The collision caused serious injuries to the truck’s occupants. The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended, and a case has been filed against him.
