Four Drown in Ganga River in Bihar, CM Nitish Kumar Announces Ex-Gratia

A tragic incident occurred in the Narayanpur block of the Navgachiya subdivision in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, where four people lost their lives after drowning in the Ganga river. Among the victims were two minors, making the incident even more heartbreaking. Three of the deceased were the only children in their families, leaving behind a void that will be difficult to fill.

The incident took place at the Madhurapur Ganga Jahaj Ghat when a group of 11 friends were swimming. One of them started struggling to stay afloat, and despite the efforts of locals to save him, the strong current pulled them all into the river. Divers were called to the scene, and they recovered the bodies of the victims, handing them over to their families.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹4 lakh to each of the deceased’s families. “The Chief Minister has said that this incident is very sad. CM has directed to give ex-gratia grants of four lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased,” stated an official statement from the Bihar CMO.

This incident comes shortly after another tragedy in Bihar, where six people lost their lives in a road accident on the Bakhtiyarpur-Biharsharif road. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed his condolences over this accident, which involved a car colliding with a truck. The incident resulted in five injured individuals, who are currently receiving medical treatment.

Authorities are conducting investigations into both incidents, utilizing CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and other technical analyses to determine the exact cause of these tragedies. The police have assured that law and order in the region remain normal.
