India achieved a commendable performance at the World Junior Squash Championships held in Houston, USA. The Indian men’s team finished sixth after a close 1-2 loss to England in the match for fifth position. On the other hand, the Indian women’s team secured seventh place, defeating New Zealand 2-1 in a thrilling clash for the seventh position. Both matches went down to the wire, showcasing the determination and skill of the Indian players.
Meanwhile, a group of talented sailors from Telangana are set to represent India at the prestigious British Nationals and World Championships. These championships will be held from July 29th to August 9th in Plymouth, United Kingdom. The participation of the Telangana sailors is a tribute to Jay Pullur, a renowned software pioneer and a strong supporter of The YCH Foundation. Pullur, known for his contributions to the software industry in Hyderabad and the US, left a lasting legacy.
This year, the sailors will be navigating a new class of boats, the Cadet Class double-hander. This class serves as a stepping stone for aspiring sailors before they advance to the International 420 and the Olympic 470 Class. The team comprises several national champions, including Deekshita and Govardhan, as well as Rizwan Mohammad, a recent bronze medalist, paired with Thanuja Kameshwar, a 420 Nationals gold medalist. Another medal-winning duo, Ganesh Peerkatla and Vinodh Dandu, will be competing on a third boat.
India’s participation in the Cadet World Championships marks a significant return after a gap of 27 years. Over 150 sailors from approximately 15 countries, primarily from Europe, are expected to participate. India will be the sole representative from Asia, showcasing the growing strength of Indian sailing. This event will provide a valuable platform for Indian sailors to gain international experience and compete against the best in the world.
