A chilling video, seemingly captured from a CCTV camera, has surfaced, depicting the harrowing moments of a plane crash at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday. The footage shows a Saurya Airlines plane engulfed in flames, shortly after it veered off the runway. While the authenticity of the video remains unverified by LiveMint, it offers a glimpse into the devastating incident that claimed 18 lives.
According to a press release issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the Saurya Airlines aircraft departed Kathmandu at 11:11 AM, bound for the popular resort town of Pokhara. The plane had already taken off and initiated a right turn before encountering disaster in the eastern section of the airport.
Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal’s primary hub for international and domestic flights, has been temporarily closed as emergency crews and investigators commence their work. While the area is currently experiencing the monsoon rainy season, there was no rainfall at the time of the crash. However, visibility conditions across the capital were reported to be low.
Tragically, the domestic plane crash resulted in the deaths of 18 individuals, with only the pilot surviving. The lone survivor was transported to Kathmandu Medical College Hospital for treatment, as confirmed by a medical professional who requested anonymity. The pilot sustained injuries to the eyes but is considered out of immediate danger.
The chilling video, while unverified, serves as a stark reminder of the precarious nature of air travel and the devastating consequences of accidents. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
