Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Kargil War Memorial on July 26th, 2024, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. He will pay homage to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during the Kargil War. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed the visit in a statement, stating that Prime Minister Modi will arrive at the memorial around 9:20 AM.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significance of the day for every Indian. He emphasized that Kargil Vijay Diwas is a day to honor the sacrifices of those who protect the nation. He also expressed his intention to visit the Kargil War Memorial and pay tributes to the brave heroes.

Alongside his visit to the memorial, Prime Minister Modi will virtually inaugurate the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. This ambitious project involves the construction of a 4.1-kilometer-long twin-tube tunnel at an altitude of approximately 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha road. This strategic infrastructure project aims to provide all-weather connectivity to Leh, a vital area in Ladakh, particularly during challenging weather conditions. Upon completion, the Shinkun La Tunnel will be recognized as the highest tunnel in the world.

The tunnel will play a crucial role in ensuring the swift and efficient movement of armed forces and equipment, contributing to national security. Furthermore, it is expected to foster economic and social development in Ladakh by facilitating improved connectivity and transportation.
