Indian Archers Start Strong at World Archery Championships, Securing Quarterfinal Berths

India’s archers have kicked off their Paris Olympics 2024 campaign on a promising note at the World Archery Championships. Both the men’s and women’s teams secured their places in the quarterfinals after impressive performances in the qualification round.

The men’s team, comprising Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, finished third overall with a total of 2013 points. They narrowly missed out on the top two spots, with Korea and France taking the lead. Their next challenge will be against either Turkey or Colombia in the quarterfinals. Should they win, they are likely to face France in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the women’s team, consisting of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Bhajan Kaur, finished fourth with a total of 1983 points. They will face either France or the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, with a potential semifinal clash against tournament favorites Korea.

The mixed team, composed of Bommadevara and Bhakat, who were India’s top-ranked archers in the individual rankings round, is seeded fifth with a total of 1347 points. They will face Indonesia in the Round of 16 stage.

This strong showing by the Indian archery teams has instilled optimism for their chances at the upcoming Paris Olympics. With their impressive performances at the World Archery Championships, they have demonstrated their competitive edge and potential to bring home medals in the international arena.
