The Nothing Phone 2a has been a hit, offering a compelling budget-friendly Android experience. Now, Nothing is taking things up a notch with the Phone 2a Plus, set to be revealed on Wednesday, July 31st. The company has been teasing the new device, hinting at a beefed-up version of the original 2a, aimed at users who demand more processing power.
The key upgrade lies in the processor. The Phone 2a Plus will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro, a more capable chip than the Dimensity 7200 Pro found in the standard 2a. Nothing claims this new processor offers nearly 10% faster performance overall. While this might not seem like a huge leap, it’s a welcome boost for a phone targeting the entry-level budget market.
The Phone 2a Plus won’t be a bigger phone, according to Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis. Instead, the company focused on internal improvements, including the processor upgrade, as well as some unspecified enhancements that didn’t require design changes. Evangelidis also teased a new color variant, which will add another layer of visual distinction from the original Phone 2a.
The original Phone 2a was praised for its unique design, featuring customizable lights that shine through the transparent rear casing. However, it received criticism for its camera performance. Nothing has since released software updates that aimed to improve the camera experience, and the Phone 2a Plus could see a more polished camera from day one.
With the Phone 2a Plus, Nothing seems to be aiming to address the shortcomings of the original, offering a more powerful and capable device at a hopefully similar price point.
