Indian Embassy Advises Caution in Lebanon Amidst Israel-Hezbollah Tensions

The Indian Embassy in Lebanon has issued an advisory urging Indian nationals residing in or planning to travel to the country to exercise caution, citing recent developments in the region. The advisory comes after Israel’s warning to the Lebanon-based Hezbollah group, raising concerns of a potential war. The Israeli warning followed a rocket attack on Golan Heights, which killed 12 children. While Israel blamed Hezbollah for the attack, the group vehemently denied involvement.

Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant vowed a heavy response during a visit to the town of Majdal Shams near the Syrian and Lebanese borders, where the rocket attack took place. He declared, “Hezbollah is responsible for this and they will pay the price.” Israel’s military also confirmed airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanese territory overnight Sunday.

The Indian Embassy in Lebanon, in their advisory posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), stated, “In view of the recent developments in the region, all Indian nationals in Lebanon and those planning to travel to Lebanon are advised to exercise caution and remain in contact with Embassy of India in Beirut through their email id: cons.beirut@mea.gov.in or the emergency phone number 96176860128.”

The heightened tensions have also impacted air travel, with flights at Beirut airport facing cancellations and delays due to the fear of a full-scale conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The situation remains volatile, with the potential for further escalation, prompting the Indian Embassy’s call for caution among its citizens in Lebanon.
