The original Borderlands revolutionized the looter-shooter genre, introducing us to the chaotic world of Pandora and the endless pursuit of powerful guns. Its sequel was a critical and commercial success, solidifying the series’ place in gaming history. While Borderlands 3 had its moments, fans have been eagerly awaiting a fresh adventure on Pandora.
The whispers of a Borderlands 4 have grown louder, with hints and rumors suggesting a return to the franchise’s roots. Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford, in an interview, alluded to the company working on something exciting for Borderlands fans, fueling speculation about the highly anticipated sequel. While there is no official confirmation of a Borderlands 4, the excitement is palpable.
While there’s been no official release date announcement, Gearbox’s recent projects and statements suggest that a Borderlands 4 could be a few years away. The last two games in the Borderlands universe were 2022’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and New Tales from the Borderlands, both focusing on a unique spin on the core gameplay. It’s been three years since a main entry, so we might have to wait a little longer. However, Gearbox has hinted that the project is in development, so we could potentially see an announcement later this year.
Given the scale of the game and the time needed for development, a 2025 release seems plausible. We can also expect it to be available on current-gen consoles, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Gameplay-wise, Borderlands 4 is expected to build upon the series’ signature formula. Expect new Vault Hunters with unique abilities, a plethora of new guns, enemies, ultimate moves, vehicles, and more.
While the specifics of the gameplay evolution remain shrouded in mystery, the core loop of looting and shooting is sure to be central to the experience.
As soon as Borderlands 4 is officially revealed and pre-order information is available, we’ll be sure to update you on where and how to secure your copy. Stay tuned for more updates as the journey to Pandora continues.
