Vladimir Kara-Murza, a dual Russian-British national and prominent opposition figure, has been moved from his prison in Siberia. The Russian prison service, FSIN, confirmed the transfer, stating that Kara-Murza, who is serving a 25-year sentence on treason charges, was being relocated from the IK-6 penal colony in Omsk to an unspecified location. The move comes amidst reports of other Russian dissidents and individuals convicted for their opposition to Moscow’s war in Ukraine disappearing from Russian prisons in recent days. Rights activists have suggested that this could be a sign that a prisoner swap with the West is imminent. The transfer of Kara-Murza adds to the growing concern over the fate of political prisoners in Russia and further fuels speculation about potential negotiations between Moscow and Western powers regarding their release.
