Apple, known for its high-end iPhones, is taking a significant step towards expanding its manufacturing footprint in India. Sources have revealed that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will be assembled in India for the first time ever. This move is a strategic decision to strengthen Apple’s manufacturing capabilities within the country and cater to the surging demand for premium smartphones in the Indian market.
According to reports, the production of these high-end iPhones will take place at Foxconn’s facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The “new product introduction” (NPI) process is slated to begin over the summer, with mass production commencing alongside the global launch of the iPhone 16 series. While initial launch supplies are expected to be imported into India, the domestically produced variants will become available sometime in 2025.
India has become a pivotal market for Apple, witnessing impressive growth in recent years. In July, Apple reported a remarkable 33% increase in revenue from India, reaching $8 billion compared to $6 billion in the previous year. Furthermore, the Indian government’s decision to reduce import duty on iPhones from 20% to 15% on July 23rd will further bolster the affordability of imported iPhones and components used in the assembly of domestically produced iPhone 16 Pro models. This move underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a robust manufacturing ecosystem in India and attracting global tech giants like Apple.
