Folding iPhone and iPad/Mac Hybrid Coming in 2026?

The long-awaited folding iPhone could be a reality sooner than expected. According to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple might unveil not just one, but two foldable devices in 2026: a folding iPhone and a folding iPad/Mac hybrid. This news aligns with previous reports from Digitimes, which also speculated about a foldable iPhone launch in 2026.

Pu’s earlier reports from May suggested that Apple wouldn’t achieve mass production of its foldable devices until 2025 or 2026. While initial speculation pointed towards a foldable iPad with a large display or even a foldable MacBook, Pu now believes the iPhone will be the second foldable device to hit the market.

The folding iPhone is anticipated to sport a clamshell form factor, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Motorola Razr, rather than a horizontal fold like the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The iPad/Mac hybrid, on the other hand, could boast a larger display, possibly reaching 20.3 inches.

Pu’s prediction suggests a staggered release for the foldable devices, with the iPad/Mac hybrid debuting first, followed by the iPhone in late 2026. This aligns with Apple’s typical release pattern, where new iPads or Macs are introduced in the first half of the year, followed by the iPhone in the fall.

The prospect of a folding iPhone has been circulating for years, and it seems we are finally nearing the realization of this concept. This could bring a much-needed refresh to the iPhone, which has been perceived as somewhat stagnant in recent years. With Samsung holding a strong position in the foldable market, it’s time for Apple to step up and contribute to the innovation in this exciting new category.
