The ambitious Ring Metro project in Thane, Maharashtra, is taking a significant step forward as the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) prepares to issue tenders for hiring consultants to meticulously plan station designs. This project, envisioned by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s hometown, is awaiting approval from the central government.
The Ring Metro aims to bridge connectivity gaps between densely populated areas on either side of Ghodbunder Road and the Eastern Express Highway. It will offer a swift and alternative mode of transportation, connecting Thane’s bustling pockets and railway stations on the Central Railway line. Moreover, the Ring Metro is designed to serve as a feeder system for the MMRDA’s Metro 4 (Wadala-Kasarwadavali) and Metro 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi).
The planned stations include Old Thane, New Thane, Rayladevi, Wagle Estate Circle, Lokmanya Nagar Bus Station, Pokhran 1, Upwan, Gandhi Nagar, Kashinath Ghanekar Auditorium, Manpada, Patlipada, Dongripada, Vijay Nagari, Waghbil, Hiranandani Estate, Bramhand, Azad Nagar Bus Stop, Manorama Nagar, Kolshet, Balkum Naka, Saket, and Shivaji Chowk.
The Ring Metro project holds immense potential to enhance connectivity within Thane, making commuting more convenient and efficient for residents and visitors alike.
