Indian Wrestler Antim Panghal Deportated from Paris Olympics for Disciplinary Breach

In a significant setback for India, wrestler Antim Panghal and her entire support staff have been deported from the Paris Olympics following a major disciplinary breach. The incident has sparked widespread criticism and brought shame to the country.

The situation unfolded after Panghal, a U20 world champion, was eliminated from the Games following a loss in her opening bout in the women’s 53kg category. Instead of returning to the Games Village, she headed to a hotel where her coach Bhagat Singh and sparring partner Vikas were staying. Panghal then instructed her sister to collect her belongings from the Games Village. However, her sister was apprehended by security for impersonation and taken to a police station for questioning.

Adding to the embarrassment, Panghal’s support staff – Vikas and Bhagat – were reportedly intoxicated while travelling in a taxi and refused to pay the driver. This prompted the driver to call the police. The IOA, upon receiving reports of these incidents from French authorities, immediately took action and ordered the deportation of Panghal and her team.

While Vikas denied any involvement in these incidents, the IOA confirmed the disciplinary breaches and expressed their disappointment. The incident has raised concerns about the conduct of Indian athletes at international events and has cast a shadow over India’s participation in the Paris Olympics.
