Pet Labrador Falls from Fifth Floor, Killing Four-Year-Old Girl in Thane

In a tragic incident that shook the city of Thane, a four-year-old girl lost her life after a pet Labrador fell from a fifth-floor terrace onto her. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Mumbra area, leaving the community in shock and grief.

The deceased girl, identified as Sana Shaikh, was walking on the road below the terrace when the dog, owned by Zaher Sayed (24), fell from the building. The dog, which suffered fractures in the fall, is currently under rescue care.

Police investigations revealed that Sayed and three of his relatives had been illegally housing several dogs on the terrace of Chirag Mansion on Dargah Road. This revelation raised concerns about potential animal safety hazards and prompted the authorities to take action against the owner and his associates.

Following the incident, police arrested Sayed and initiated a search for the three relatives who allegedly aided in the illegal housing of the dogs. Police sources revealed that Sayed had secured the Labrador with a leash on a portion of the terrace that lacked railings or a safety wall after bathing him. He then left the dog unattended, resulting in the fatal fall.

Sana’s mother reported the incident to the police, alleging that the CT scan machine at the civic-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital was not functional. This forced them to transfer the child to Kalsekar Hospital, where doctors sadly pronounced her dead.

The incident sparked widespread outrage and highlighted concerns regarding responsible pet ownership and the importance of ensuring animal safety. It also raised questions about the adequacy of safety measures in residential buildings and the need for stricter regulations governing the housing and care of pets in urban areas.
