The Triveni Continental Kings, reigning champions of the Global Chess League (GCL), have unveiled their star-studded lineup for the second season, set to take place from October 3 to 12 at Friends House in London. The team boasts a formidable roster of some of the world’s most talented chess players, ready to compete for the championship title.
Leading the charge is two-time World Championship challenger, Grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi, a renowned icon in the chess world. He will be joined by chess prodigy Wei Yi, returning for another season. The team’s strength is further amplified by prominent female players, including Russian-Swiss Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk and Valentina Gunina, a three-time Russian women’s chess champion.
Adding to the roster’s firepower are Azerbaijani Grandmaster and former child prodigy Teimour Radjabov, as well as Javokhir Sindarov, a Grandmaster from Uzbekistan who holds the distinction of being one of the youngest in history. This talented group of players will strive to defend their title under the guidance and coaching of renowned chess player Loek Van Wely, currently serving as the national coach of Italy.
The GCL format promises intense competition, featuring a minimum of three marquee showdowns every day between the icon players as they lead their teams into the chess arena. Each team will participate in a total of 10 matches, played in a double round-robin format. The winner of each match is determined by a best-of-six board scoring system, ensuring a captivating and competitive environment for the tournament.
With such a formidable team, the Triveni Continental Kings are poised to make a strong run for the championship title in the highly anticipated second season of the Global Chess League.
