Mazda has taken the wraps off its first global electric sedan, the MAZDA EZ-6, showcasing the design and development process to Chinese users at its Hiroshima headquarters. In July, the vehicle successfully rolled off the production line at Changan Mazda, Mazda’s joint venture in China. This marks a significant step in Mazda’s global electric vehicle strategy, with the EZ-6 set to be the company’s first worldwide new energy offering.
The MAZDA EZ-6 is scheduled for an official global launch in autumn 2024, initially hitting the Chinese and European markets. The car’s global significance was underscored by the joint presence of Mazda President Masahiro Moro and Changan Automobile President Zhu Huairong at the world debut of the MAZDA EZ-6 at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition in April.
While embracing a new driving paradigm, Mazda has leveraged its extensive experience in dynamic performance tuning from the gasoline vehicle era to elevate the driving pleasure of the MAZDA EZ-6. It promises to deliver the same Jinba-Ittai (car and driver as one) experience that defines the MAZDA6. Experts from Mazda’s European R&D center have already completed dynamic performance tuning and validation of the MAZDA EZ-6 at the Chongqing Automobile Testing Grounds, China’s highest-specification automotive testing facility.
On the intelligence front, the MAZDA EZ-6 adopts the leading intelligence and electrification technologies from Changan Automobile, Mazda’s Chinese partner. The new car will come equipped with Level 2.5 autonomous driving assistance, a 7nm Qualcomm SA8155P chip, four high-definition panoramic cameras, and twelve high-performance ultrasonic radars. This will enable various intelligent driving scenarios, such as autonomous parking, remote parking, intelligent remote parking, and trace parking.
The MAZDA EZ-6 represents a bold step for Mazda in the electric vehicle market, combining its renowned driving experience with cutting-edge technology from its Chinese partner. The car is poised to make a significant impact in both its home market and beyond, solidifying Mazda’s position in the global automotive landscape.
