The Paris 2024 Olympics witnessed a remarkable dominance from Punjab and Haryana, with the two states contributing a significant portion of India’s medal haul. Together, they accounted for 15 of India’s 22 medalists, considering the 16 members of the bronze medal-winning hockey team separately. This impressive performance reflects the states’ significant contribution to the Indian contingent, as 42 out of the 117 athletes in the Indian Olympic squad were from either Punjab or Haryana.
A total of seven Indian states had representatives on the Paris Olympics podiums, including Haryana, Punjab, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh. Haryana, in particular, emerged as the most dominant state in individual events. Four out of the five Indian individual medalists in Paris hailed from Haryana. This includes shooter Manu Bhaker, who made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win multiple medals in the same Olympics edition, securing two bronzes in Paris. Another notable athlete from Haryana is Neeraj Chopra, who added a silver medal in javelin throw at the Paris Olympics to his gold medal from Tokyo. This impressive performance showcases the exceptional talent and dedication of athletes from Punjab and Haryana, contributing to India’s success on the global sporting stage.
