President Joe Biden, while discussing the ‘Cancer Moonshot’ initiative in New Orleans, Louisiana, made a claim about his extensive travels with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He stated, “I spent a lot of time with Xi Jinping… over 80 hours with him alone. Over 17,000 miles in China, anywhere in Tibet, near Tibet.” However, this claim has been repeatedly fact-checked and deemed inaccurate.
The Washington Post previously investigated Biden’s claim in 2021, concluding that, despite their efforts, they couldn’t verify the 17,000-mile travel figure. The publication awarded the statement three Pinocchio’s, indicating “significant factual error and/or obvious contradictions.” This equates to a rating of “mostly false.”
Biden has made this claim on multiple occasions over several years, despite its lack of factual basis. The White House has not yet responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the matter.
While the focus on his travel with Xi Jinping is significant, the speech was primarily centered on the ‘Cancer Moonshot’ initiative. Biden announced $150 million in ARPA-H awards to advance technologies for more successful tumor removal surgeries. This initiative holds significant importance for the President, who is now focusing on causes that hold personal significance during his remaining time in office. This comes after Biden’s recent announcement that he will not seek re-election in 2024, and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
