Mbappé’s Real Madrid Debut Looms in Super Cup Clash

Kylian Mbappé, the highly-anticipated French forward, could make his debut for Real Madrid in the Super Cup clash against Atalanta on Wednesday. While coach Carlo Ancelotti remained tight-lipped about whether Mbappé would start the game, he hinted at his potential involvement, acknowledging the player’s impressive integration into the team since arriving last week.

“Mbappé has arrived well, just like the other players who joined last week,” Ancelotti stated during a press conference on Tuesday. “We haven’t had much time to train, but we are doing very well, and Kylian has also arrived in good shape. He is adapting very well. Obviously, everyone who is here can play tomorrow.”

Ancelotti’s previous statement, following a recent U.S. friendly, suggested that the Champions League winning squad would take the field for the Super Cup. However, he did not rule out Mbappé’s appearance at some point during the match.

When asked about Mbappé’s potential penalty-taking duties, Ancelotti confirmed the French star’s expertise in the area. However, he indicated that the responsibility would only be given to a player who started the game, acknowledging the prowess of other potential takers like Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde.

Real Madrid has a chance to solidify its position as the Super Cup champion with a victory, seeking its sixth title in the competition, putting them ahead of Barcelona and AC Milan, who have also won five times. This season holds the potential for historic success, with seven trophies up for grabs, including FIFA’s newly introduced Intercontinental Cup.

“As always, we’re starting the season with all the excitement and desire,” Ancelotti added. “It’s the first title of a season that is going to be very demanding but can also be very successful. We want to start it well. We are aware of the difficulties, but I see the team in good shape, motivated to play a great game.”
