In a move reminiscent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the second Test match against Bangladesh will be played behind closed doors. The decision, made due to ongoing construction work at the National Stadium in Karachi, prioritizes the safety and well-being of spectators. The PCB acknowledged the vital role fans play in inspiring players, but emphasized the importance of their safety.
The construction work is part of the preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Karachi early next year. The board explained that after careful consideration, they concluded that playing the Test match in front of an empty stadium was the safest course of action.
As a result of this decision, ticket sales have been suspended for the second Test, which is scheduled to take place from August 30th to September 3rd. Fans who have already purchased tickets will receive automatic full refunds, with the amount credited to the account details provided during the purchase.
While the PCB expressed regret for any inconvenience caused, they assured fans that the ongoing stadium upgrades are aimed at enhancing their future experience. The renovations are part of their commitment to making the venue more spectator-friendly and ensuring it’s ready to host the Champions Trophy.
The first Test match of the series will be played in Rawalpindi from August 21st. This decision has sparked discussions about the ongoing construction work’s impact on the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and the overall safety of spectators attending the event.
