The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for various parts of India, predicting heavy rainfall in several regions.
Kerala
Kerala’s Wayanad district is under an ‘orange’ alert, signifying the potential for heavy rainfall. This comes after the district experienced devastating landslides on July 30, which claimed the lives of over 230 people. The IMD predicts heavy rainfall, ranging from 7 cm to 11 cm in 24 hours, in parts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kannur on Wednesday. Kozhikode and Wayanad are expected to experience similar conditions on Thursday.
Lakshadweep
The IMD has issued a ‘red’ alert for Lakshadweep, indicating extremely heavy rainfall, exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours, at isolated locations on Wednesday.
Northwest India
Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall is expected over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Similar conditions are anticipated in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan over the next 4-5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and West Rajasthan between August 15th and 17th. Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab are expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall between August 15th and 21st, while Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi are likely to see isolated heavy rainfall on August 15th and 16th.
West & Central India
Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is anticipated in Konkan & Goa and the Gujarat Region. Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Saurashtra & Kutch during the next 7 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in West Madhya Pradesh on August 15th, 16th, and between August 19th and 21st. East Madhya Pradesh is likely to experience similar conditions on August 15th and between August 18th and 21st. Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa, and Chhattisgarh are also expected to see isolated heavy rainfall between August 18th and 20th.
East & Northeast India
Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall is expected over east India, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the northeast region. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on August 15th and 16th. Gangetic West Bengal is expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall between August 15th and 18th. Similar conditions are anticipated in Bihar and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between August 15th and 21st. Jharkhand is likely to see isolated heavy rainfall between August 15th and 20th, while Odisha is expected to experience similar conditions between August 15th and 19th. Arunachal Pradesh is expected to see isolated heavy rainfall on August 15th, and Assam & Meghalaya are likely to experience similar conditions on August 15th and between August 19th and 21st.
South Peninsular India
Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall is expected over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka state. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is anticipated in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal between August 15th and 18th, as well as on August 19th. Kerala & Mahe are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall on August 15th and 19th, while Lakshadweep is expected to see similar conditions between August 15th and 19th. Rayalaseema is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall between August 15th and 17th, while Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka are expected to experience similar conditions on August 15th and 16th. South Interior Karnataka is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall between August 15th and 17th.
