The Maharaja Trophy witnessed a familiar surname taking the field on Thursday as Samit Dravid, son of the legendary Rahul Dravid, made his debut for the Mysore Warriors. The excitement among fans was palpable, evident in their reactions across social media, as they eagerly awaited the performance of the next-generation Dravid.
Batting at number four after Mysore were asked to bat first, Samit’s innings was a short one, lasting only 7 runs. However, this didn’t dampen the spirits of the fans, who were simply delighted to witness the young all-rounder in action.
Despite the rain curtailing Shivamogga’s chase, Mysore emerged victorious by 7 runs, using the DLS method. Mysore had set a competitive 159 for 8, and their bowlers restricted Shivamogga to 80 for 5 in just 9 overs.
This is Samit’s first experience in a state-level T20 league. The 18-year-old, known for his medium-pace bowling and middle-order batting, was acquired by Mysore for INR 50,000 at the auction. He has previously represented the Karnataka Under-19 team, playing a key role in their triumph at the Cooch Behar Trophy in 2023-24.
