Azerbaijan has witnessed a remarkable surge in tourism during the first seven months of 2024, with visitor numbers significantly exceeding those recorded in the same period last year. The country’s appeal to tourists from across the globe has led to a considerable influx, particularly from Asia and Europe.
Among the leading contributors to this surge were visitors from India, South Korea, and China. Indian arrivals saw a staggering 2.5-fold increase, while South Korea experienced a 2.3-fold rise and China a 2.1-fold growth. Further bolstering the positive trend were Spain and Kazakhstan, each registering a 1.8-fold increase in visitor numbers. Kyrgyzstan followed closely with a 1.7-fold boost, the Philippines saw a 1.6-fold rise, and Pakistan’s numbers grew by 1.5 times.
Beyond these significant increases, Azerbaijan experienced substantial growth from several other countries. Jordan saw a remarkable 49.7% surge in visitor numbers, while Oman registered a 47.0% increase. Iran also saw substantial growth, with a 46.5% rise in visitor numbers. Saudi Arabia’s visitor count rose by 42.8%, Italy saw a 38.7% increase, and Yemen’s numbers grew by 35.9%. Turkmenistan experienced a 33.0% rise, Poland saw a 31.8% increase, and Kuwait’s visitor numbers grew by 29.3%. Egypt saw a 29.2% increase, Uzbekistan’s numbers rose by 25.6%, and the USA saw a 21.9% growth.
The positive trend continued with further increases from Ukraine (20.5%), Turkey (19.6%), Germany (19.3%), Tajikistan (17.8%), the Russian Federation (16.9%), Bahrain (14.3%), France (13.5%), Georgia (11.8%), and the United Arab Emirates (7.5%).
Notably, arrivals from Gulf countries showed a significant increase of 39.6%, reaching a total of 258,800 people. Arrivals from European Union member states also saw a positive trend, increasing by 28.0% to 57,100. Arrivals from CIS countries grew by 20.5%, totaling 576,100.
The remarkable surge in visitor numbers from various countries highlights Azerbaijan’s growing popularity as a travel destination. The country’s diverse cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality are attracting tourists from around the world, contributing to a thriving tourism industry in Azerbaijan.
