Meghalaya Enhances Tourism Infrastructure and Appoints Locals as Tourist Assistants

Meghalaya is taking strides to enhance its tourism sector and attract more visitors. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced plans to appoint locals as ‘tourist assistants,’ who will provide guidance, security, and information to tourists. These individuals will be semi-uniformed and will play a vital role in ensuring a positive experience for visitors.

To further boost tourism, the state government is actively upgrading its infrastructure. This includes improvements to hotels, resorts, restaurants, promenades, and attractions like skywalks and museums. Key tourist spots like Shillong are undergoing significant transformations to enhance their visual appeal.

As part of the government’s efforts, an exciting autumn tourism calendar has been unveiled, featuring a variety of events. Highlights include the Shillong Literary Festival (November 12-14), Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival (November 15-16), Me’gong Festival (November 29-30), The Hills Festival (December 6-7), Bryan Adams India Tour (December 10), and Winter Takes (December 12-14).

In a significant move, Meghalaya has officially partnered with Japan as the partner country for the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival. This collaboration will result in a special ‘Japan Zone’ showcasing the vibrant and rich cultural heritage of Japan.

With these initiatives, Meghalaya is poised to become an even more attractive destination for tourists seeking unique experiences and cultural immersion.
