UGC NET June 2024 Re-examination: Back to Online CBT Mode

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the re-examination of the UGC NET June 2024 cycle will be conducted online as a Computer-Based Test (CBT). This marks a return to the familiar format after the initial June 18 exam, held in a pen-and-paper format, was canceled due to concerns about test integrity. The Ministry of Education confirmed the shift to CBT mode, highlighting the change from the earlier offline approach.

Initially, the June 18 exam was conducted for 9.08 lakh candidates, but concerns arose regarding the integrity of the test. Reports of a question paper leak on the darknet led to the exam’s cancellation. Following the cancellation, the NTA also postponed the joint CSIR-UGC NET exam due to logistical challenges and unavoidable circumstances. New dates for the CSIR NET exam have since been released.

The UGC NET exam pattern remains consistent, comprising two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers are objective-type, featuring multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with no negative marking. Paper 1 assesses teaching and research aptitude, while Paper 2 focuses on the candidate’s subject specialization.

Candidates will have three hours (180 minutes) to complete both papers, with no breaks. All questions are compulsory, and the exam will be available in both English and Hindi. Each question carries two marks, and there are no deductions for incorrect answers.

The detailed breakdown of Paper 1 sections is as follows:

*

Teaching Aptitude (5 questions, 10 marks)

*

Research Aptitude (5 questions, 10 marks)

*

Reading Comprehension (5 questions, 10 marks)

*

Communication (5 questions, 10 marks)

With the re-examination approaching, candidates are advised to thoroughly revise the UGC NET exam pattern and syllabus. This will allow them to strategize effectively and improve their chances of success.
