Internet Shutdown in Udaipur Following School Stabbing and Communal Tensions

The Rajasthan government has imposed a 24-hour internet shutdown in Udaipur following a surge in communal tensions that erupted after a disturbing incident at a government school on Friday. The incident involved a Class 10 student allegedly stabbing another boy with a knife. This act of violence triggered a wave of unrest in the city, prompting authorities to take swift action to quell the situation.

The district administration issued an order to shut down internet services for the next 24 hours, starting from 10 pm yesterday. In addition to the internet blackout, Section 144 has been imposed across the city, effectively restricting gatherings and assemblies. Security forces have been deployed in large numbers to maintain order and prevent further escalation of violence.

According to reports from news agency PTI, the motive behind the stabbing at the government school in Bhattiyani Chohatta remains unclear. However, Arvind Poswal, District Collector of Udaipur, provided details about the incident, stating that it took place in the early hours of Friday. He explained that a fight broke out between two children, during which one child sustained a deep knife wound to his thighs. The injured child was promptly taken to the hospital and is now reported to be in stable condition. The police are actively investigating the incident to determine the root cause and identify any potential accomplices.

Following the stabbing, members of certain Hindu groups congregated at Madhuban in Udaipur to protest the incident. During the protest, a mob reportedly engaged in stone pelting and set three or four cars ablaze, as reported by PTI. Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal confirmed the vandalism, stating that the public’s outrage over the stabbing incident led to these acts of violence. He assured that the injured child received immediate medical attention and is now in a stable condition.

The internet shutdown and imposition of Section 144 are aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation and curbing further violence. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading rumors or false information. The situation remains tense, and security forces are on high alert to maintain law and order in the city.
