Craving perfectly fried eggs with creamy yolks, but tired of the mess and inconsistent results? Look no further than your air fryer! Culinary whiz ChihYu Chiang, founder of I Heart Umami, shares a simple and healthy method for achieving those perfect fried eggs in just minutes, without the need for a frying pan.
ChihYu explains, “Making fried eggs in an air fryer is a fast and easy alternative to stovetop cooking. Crispy fried eggs with creamy yolks are ready in minutes, with minimal cleanup.” Plus, this method uses a fraction of the oil, saving fat and calories for a healthier protein addition to any meal.
Here’s how to make perfect air fryer fried eggs:
1.
Preheat:
Spray a shallow, heat-proof tray with oil (or grease with butter) and preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) for five minutes.2.
Crack and Cook:
Crack an egg into a small dish. Gently tip it onto the preheated tray. Set the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and cook for a few minutes, depending on how runny you want the yolk. For sunny-side up or over-easy eggs, cook for three minutes. For a medium yolk, cook for four minutes.3.
Alternative to Tray:
If you don’t have a tray that fits in your air fryer, use a piece of foil folded into a small cup shape. Make sure the sides are high enough to prevent spilling and grease the foil before adding the egg. Never cover the entire bottom of the air fryer with foil, as this restricts airflow.4.
Enjoy:
Once cooked, carefully retrieve the tray from the air fryer. Use a spatula to slide under the egg and lift it free. You’ll have a perfectly creamy fried egg ready to enjoy! These air-fried sunny-side-up eggs are an ideal addition to any classic breakfast, like avocado on toast. Enjoy!
