Cameron Norrie and Marketa Vondrousova Withdraw from US Open

Cameron Norrie, the 47th ranked player in the ATP rankings, has announced his withdrawal from the US Open due to a forearm injury. The British player has not competed since mid-July in Bastad, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in his first event back from injury. Norrie had reached the third round at last year’s US Open and his best run in New York was a fourth-round appearance in 2022.

Meanwhile, Marketa Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion and 18th ranked player in the WTA rankings, has also withdrawn from the US Open. The Czech player has been sidelined since a first-round loss at Wimbledon in her title defense, and has subsequently missed the Paris Olympics due to a hand injury.

Vondrousova’s withdrawal allows Petra Martic, ranked 98th, to enter the main draw. This joins the withdrawals of Sorana Cirstea and Zhu Lin, making it a trio of players opting out of the US Open.

The US Open, the year’s final Grand Slam tennis tournament, is set to begin in New York on August 26th.
