Lalu Prasad Yadav Summoned in Land for Jobs Scam Case

A Delhi court has scheduled an order to summon former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his son Tejaswi Yadav, and other accused individuals in a land for jobs scam case. The order will be announced on August 24. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a supplementary charge sheet on August 6 against 11 accused persons, including Lalu Yadav and Tejaswi Yadav. The charge sheet was filed before Special Judge Vishal Gogne, who set the next hearing for August 13.

The charge sheet details allegations that 11 individuals were involved in the scam, supported by 96 documents. The ED alleges that during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, candidates were illicitly appointed to Group ‘D’ positions in different zones of the Indian Railways. The accused allegedly demanded the transfer of land from the candidates to family members of Lalu Prasad Yadav and to A K Infosystems Private Limited, a company linked to the former railway minister, in exchange for these appointments.

The complaint was initially lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The case is being pursued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which aims to prevent money laundering and allows the confiscation of assets derived from such activities. This supplementary charge sheet adds to the earlier charge sheet filed in January by the ED, which named former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and her daughter and MP Misa Bharti. The investigation has also identified Amit Katyal, a close associate of the Yadav family, Hema Yadav, and Hridayanand Chaudhary as well as associated entities. The summons for Lalu Yadav and other accused individuals mark a significant step in the investigation of this alleged corruption case.
