Hindu Religious Leader Faces Charges for Alleged Anti-Islam Remarks

Police in Thane district, Maharashtra, have initiated legal action against Hindu religious leader Ramgiri Maharaj for allegedly making inflammatory remarks targeting Prophet Mohammad and Islam. The incident occurred during a religious gathering in Shah Panchale village, Sinnar taluka, Nashik district, and a video of his comments subsequently went viral on social media.

Based on the viral video, the Mumbra police have registered a case against Maharaj under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These sections pertain to offenses like uttering words intended to wound religious feelings, promoting enmity between different religious groups, intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace, and criminal intimidation.

The controversy surrounding Ramgiri Maharaj’s remarks isn’t isolated to Thane. He also faces criminal complaints in Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar districts of Maharashtra.

In response to the allegations, Maharaj stated that his remarks were a reaction to the perceived persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. He claimed his intention was to unite the Hindu community.

Despite facing legal repercussions, Maharaj remains defiant and has vowed to face the consequences. He stated on Friday that he would cooperate with the authorities if and when he receives a formal notice.
