India’s Weather Forecast: Heavy Rains in Northeast, Relief for Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided an update on the weather conditions across India, predicting a mix of heavy rains, light showers, and relief from the downpour in different regions.

Northeast to Experience Heavy Rains:

A low-pressure area has formed in the Bay of Bengal, leading to heavy rainfall in the northeastern states of Mizoram and Tripura. IMD scientist Soma Sen stated that the low-pressure area will move towards northwest, bringing rain to Bengal and Jharkhand on Sunday. These areas could experience very heavy rainfall.

Delhi to See Reduced Rainfall:

While the northeast braces for heavy rain, Delhi residents can expect a reduction in the downpour. The IMD predicts light rain on Saturday and Sunday, with the rainfall ending on Monday. However, light showers are expected to return after that.

Orange Alert in Kerala:

The IMD has issued an orange alert for four districts in Kerala, namely Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam, due to heavy downpour and strong winds expected over the next five days. The state has been experiencing intermittent isolated rains, leading to a rise in water levels in several rivers including the Manimala and Pamba. An orange alert indicates very heavy rainfall, ranging from 11 cm to 20 cm.

Light to Moderate Rainfall in Himachal Pradesh:

Himachal Pradesh is also experiencing rainfall, with light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning expected in several districts, including Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Solan, Mandi, Shimla, and Kullu. There is a possibility of intense to very intense rainfall in these areas, which could lead to flash floods, slippery roads, low visibility, and potential damage to vulnerable structures. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for 10 of the state’s 12 districts, effective until August 20.
