MITE Wins Two ‘Best Project of the Year’ Awards at Karnataka State Science and Technology Event

The Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE) has achieved a remarkable feat by securing two prestigious ‘Best Project of the Year’ awards at the ‘State Level Poster Presentation and Project Exhibition’ of the 47th Series Student Project Programme, organized by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST). The event took place at Sharnbasva University, Kalaburagi, recently.

Out of the 24 projects submitted by MITE that received sponsorship from KSCST, nine progressed to the final round after rigorous mid-term evaluations. This achievement highlights the exceptional quality and potential of MITE’s student projects.

Two of these projects stood out from the rest and were awarded the coveted ‘Best Project of the Year’ title. The Computer Science and Engineering project titled ‘A Deep Learning Approach to Detect Rheumatoid Arthritis Using X-Ray Images and Biomarkers,’ was developed by a team comprising Sourabh P, Shreyas S Tantri, Shreyas Shetty B, under the guidance of Pradeep B S and Vinayak Nayak N. This innovative project demonstrates the power of artificial intelligence in healthcare, specifically in diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis.

The second winning project, titled ‘Sewage Pipe Crawling Robot,’ hails from the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department. The project team, consisting of Ranjan, Nisar Ahmed, Abhijith M Naik, and Adithya Bhat, was guided by Sri Krishna Shastri C. This project addresses a critical real-world problem by developing a robot capable of navigating and inspecting sewage pipes, a task that is often dangerous and difficult for humans.

This is the fifth consecutive year that MITE has won this prestigious award, showcasing the institution’s consistent commitment to excellence in engineering education and research. Rajesh Chowta, Chairman of the Rajalaxmi Education Trust-Mangaluru, expressed his pride in MITE’s achievements, emphasizing the institution’s dedication to providing world-class academic facilities and nurturing future generations of engineers and researchers.
