A Thane Sessions Court has delivered a verdict of justice in a brutal assault case from 2018. Four individuals have been convicted and sentenced to seven years of simple imprisonment for their role in the attack on a widow. The assault, which took place in the Naupada area, involved the use of fiber sticks and kicks, resulting in severe injuries to the victim, including a fracture to her left fibula.
The court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge G.G. Bhansali, also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on each of the convicted individuals. The four were found guilty of offenses under Sections 324 and 326 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertain to causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
The incident occurred on April 22, 2018, when Savitri Singh visited a factory to demand the repayment of Rs 2.50 lakh that her deceased husband had lent to the factory owner six years prior. When her request was met with resistance and the accused refused to pay, they violently attacked her.
The prosecution, represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Rakhi W. Pande, presented eight witnesses to support their case. In his judgment, Judge Bhansali stated that the prosecution successfully established the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt, emphasizing the severity of the attack and the lasting impact of the injuries suffered by Savitri Singh. This verdict serves as a reminder that justice will be sought for victims of violence, and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions.
