A disturbing incident has unfolded at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, Haryana, where a dental student has accused a resident doctor of kidnapping and assault. The accused, identified as Maninder Kaushik, an MD anatomy resident doctor at PGIMS, was arrested by the police on Friday, August 16, following a complaint filed by the victim.
According to the dental student’s allegations, Dr. Kaushik kidnapped her from the government medical institution and took her to Ambala and Chandigarh, where she was allegedly assaulted. The victim has reported that the abuse has been ongoing for the past seven months, and she claims that Dr. Kaushik threatened to reduce her attendance if she reported the incidents to the administration.
The Rohtak police confirmed the incident on X, stating that the first-year dental student lodged a complaint, and an FIR was registered against Dr. Kaushik. The victim’s statement was recorded in the presence of her family members and a legal aid counsel. She has also been medically examined.
Following the incident, the University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, took immediate action and expelled Dr. Kaushik from the institution. He is now prohibited from entering the PGIMS campus.
This incident has garnered significant attention, particularly after a video of the victim’s account was released on X. The case comes at a time when the nation is witnessing widespread protests by doctors and the medical community against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
