TMC MP Seeks Protection from Arrest in Kolkata Doctor Murder Case

Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has taken legal action in the Calcutta High Court seeking protection from arrest in connection with the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor. This move comes just a day after the Kolkata Police issued a summons demanding Roy’s presence for custodial interrogation regarding the case. The police are seeking to question him about his allegations against the Police Commissioner and the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Roy has been vocal on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), demanding a fair investigation and raising numerous questions about the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death. In his statement, he asserted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) must conduct a fair investigation and that a custodial interrogation of the former principal and the Police Commissioner is crucial to determine who was involved in spreading the false narrative of suicide and why. He also inquired about the demolition of a wall in the hospital, the alleged influence and power that Roy held, and the delayed use of a sniffer dog in the investigation. He concluded by demanding that those involved be brought to justice.

The case has garnered significant attention, with Roy’s involvement adding a new dimension to the investigation. The Calcutta High Court will now need to decide whether to grant him protection from arrest while the investigation progresses.
