Thai AirAsia X Expands Network with New Sydney-Bangkok Flights and Increased Frequency

Thai AirAsia X is gearing up for the anticipated year-end travel surge by launching new direct flights between Sydney and Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport (DMK), starting December 2, 2024. These flights will operate six times a week, providing travelers with more options for connecting to popular destinations across Thailand and beyond.

The airline is also increasing the frequency of its existing Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Sydney route, with six flights a week starting December 1, 2024. This expansion in service aims to meet the high demand for travel between these two cities.

Competitive Fares and Convenient Connections

Travelers can book their seats on the new Sydney-Bangkok route at competitive prices, starting from just AUD$333 for a direct flight. These fares are available for booking between August 19-25, 2024, for travel commencing December 2, 2024.

The Fly Thru services via Don Mueang Airport provide seamless connections to popular Thai destinations such as Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Krabi. Additionally, international connections are available to Da Nang in Vietnam and several cities in India, including Chennai, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad.

Resuming Popular Routes with Added Convenience

The increased frequency of flights between Bangkok (Don Mueang) and Sydney offers travelers more flexibility and convenience. Promotional fares for this route begin at just 5,990 THB one way. For added convenience, travelers can book Fly Thru services from other major Thai cities, including Phuket, Krabi, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai, with a short stopover at Don Mueang, to Sydney. All-in fares for these connections start from 10,027 THB one way, exclusively available on the AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com.

Enhanced Connectivity and Network Expansion

Thai AirAsia X CEO, Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, commented on the expansion, stating, “Thai AirAsia X is returning to Sydney with a better network, schedule, and enhanced connectivity spanning over 50 Aussie favourite destinations in Thailand and beyond to meet strong demand.” He emphasized the increase in flights to six times weekly, operating every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday (2 flights), and Saturday.

Arriving at Don Mueang Airport (DMK) offers a convenient location, being just 30 minutes from central Bangkok via public transportation options such as the sky train (Red Line), airport bus, and taxi cabs. Outbound travelers with connecting services will benefit from a streamlined process, allowing them to quickly pass from check-in through immigration to their gate at the same airport without needing to change terminals.

Mr. Tassapon highlighted the advantage of operating out of Don Mueang Airport, which allows for connections to many more Thai AirAsia destinations throughout Thailand and internationally, particularly catering to the high demand from the Indian market. Passengers can utilize the Fly Thru service at Don Mueang Airport to pass through immigration and receive their luggage at their final destination, enabling seamless onward journeys.

Fleet Growth and Future Expansion

Thai AirAsia X currently operates a fleet of eight Airbus A330 aircraft and plans to expand to 11 by the end of the year, with further fleet growth expected in the coming years. The airline currently serves seven key destinations, including Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Nagoya in Japan, Seoul in South Korea, Shanghai in China, and Sydney in Australia. It also connects with the broader AirAsia Group network, which includes over 150 destinations via key hubs in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Manila.

With these new offerings, Thai AirAsia X continues to strengthen its network, providing travelers with more options and competitive pricing for their year-end journeys.
