The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, the nodal institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025, has officially opened registration for admission to postgraduate engineering programs. Aspiring candidates can apply online through the official website, gate2025.iitr.ac.in. The application window opened on August 24, 2024, and the deadline for submitting applications without a late fee is September 26, 2024. Candidates have an extended window until October 7, 2024, to submit their applications with a late fee.
The GATE 2025 exam is scheduled for four days: February 1st, 2nd, 15th, and 16th, 2025. The exam will be conducted in two shifts—forenoon and afternoon—on each of these days. The forenoon shift will begin at 9:30 am and conclude at 12:30 pm, while the afternoon shift will start at 2:30 pm and end at 5:30 pm.
It’s crucial to note that candidates can only submit one application. If they wish to appear in the second paper (from the two-paper combination), they must add the respective paper to their original application. Multiple applications will not be accepted, and any duplicates will be rejected without refunding the paid fee. The GATE 2025 scorecard will be valid for three years from the date the results are announced.
Eligibility Criteria:
There is no age limit to appear in the GATE 2025 exam. Candidates currently pursuing their 3rd year or higher of any undergraduate degree program or those who have completed a government-approved degree program in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts/ Humanities are eligible to take the GATE 2025 exam.

GATE 2025 will consist of 30 exam papers. The exam will be conducted entirely in English and will comprise objective-type questions. Candidates can choose one or two test papers from permissible combinations. The exam duration is 3 hours, and GATE scores will be valid for three years from the announcement of the results.
The question types include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. In MCQs, only one out of four options is correct. In MSQs, one or more than one out of four options can be correct, and for NAT questions, the answer must be keyed in using a virtual keypad. Candidates must utilize the on-screen virtual calculator provided for their calculations.
